What's Apple!?

As we know, Apple Store is a successful company in high tech digital products domain. In the past, Apple Store is a poor company, its products not famous and has lower market share, but now it leads the digital products trend, other companies such as Google, HTC etc, follow the trend and crate some similar products ceaselessly. Based on this situation, we try to use Parson General Theory of Action (iPhone) to analyses why Apple Store being success.

A: Adaption (Means + External)
In the past years, Apple Store had created a new smart phone environment. It believed that touch screens will be the trend of the phone’s innovation in the future. So that it’s keeping amend and adding new function with its unparalleled idea. We can see other companies such as Nokia, Motorola etc, just standing in situ (no innovation). Apple being exceed to its competitors is relies it can catch the opportunity and its unlimited creation.


B: Goal Attainment (Ends + External)
Apple Store not just satisfies it can lead the trend of smart phone; it wants to have the large market share and its competitors never get ahead of it. So that, we can see it keeping study the past experience and face to consumer to add more value into iPhone. Every generation of iPhone is unique and have changing, it represented how well does Apple accomplishes its goals and heart and soul to satisfy consumer. Apple never stands in situ; we look forward to its new products in coming summer.


C: Integration (Ends + Internal)
One of the major purposes of internal company is establishing a religion that security is Apple's culture. Apple Store pays much attention to their internal information since it is high value for the company. If the security is higher, the competitive advantage is higher. As well as Apple Store is a very famous brand in the world. There are lots of people and companies want to obtain its information as much as possible.


D: Pattern Maintenance (Means + Internal)
How does Apple Store to maintain this culture? In one way, it encourages employees to think that "it isn't just the rules, it is the job itself." Also, it would use some technologies such as set up top-secret areas for sensitive projects. In other way, Apple Store would punish those who leak out news. In recent months, one of Apple's ex-engineer was leave a new iPhone on pub, which was not launch to public. The ex-engineer has fire out from Apple.


Apple store is always changing. It could improve their products and services and keeps the market share, as well as the competitive advantages. When there is anything different of environment, the four prerequisite functions maybe different to fit the market.

  1. A drastic change of writing style.... it's cruel. I strongly agree with C: Integration (Ends + Internal) --> I think it's the attribute of learning organization.

    You may consider to add in icon / related diagram to show the revolution of apple proudcts --> world class products.

  2. I also agree with your analysis. For example, you mentioned in Goal Attainment, Apple always produce lots of new products for the market. Their development is very good. I believe that one of the elements they can success is that their employees’ effort.
